Legislation proposed by the Realtor association requires real estate brokerages to be available to receive and present all offers and counteroffers to their […]

Bloggers routinely gather, crunch and interpret numbers, interview industry movers and shakers, and break news before the mainstream press.
For some, part of the incentive is […]

When Citi-Habitats agent Noah Rosenblatt started blogging about the real-estate market twenty months ago, his colleagues couldn’t fathom why he spent hours every day on his site, UrbanDigs.com. “They couldn’t believe it,” he remembers. They do now: At a real-estate seminar at the Marriott Marquis in January, a standing-room-only crowd of agents skipped seminars on […]
I’m often surprised that I don’t see more real estate professionals talk about social networking tools because real estate is really about relationships and social networks on the internet are just an extension of this idea. Social networking tools are one of the most powerful ways for real estate professionals to use the internet to […]
Q: My husband has a terminal illness. I wonder how long I have after he passes away to take advantage of his $250,000 principal-residence-sale tax exemption. We have owned our home for 30 years and have no mortgage but a lot of equity, thanks to market-value appreciation. I want to stay in the home awhile, […]
In a market where buyers and sellers circle one another warily — each certain that he or she is being taken advantage of, no matter what the conclusion of a deal — the asking price of a property is rarely a straightforward reflection of comparable values.
While comparables may be a starting point, the price at […]

Q: I own a few rental condos. What are the pros and cons of allowing waterbeds in an upstairs unit? I’m not sure how much I like the idea, especially because I just installed new carpet and appliances in this older property. I would require the tenant to have renter’s insurance.
Property manager Robert Griswold replies: […]
Most people keep up well enough with their monthly bills. So why do so many homeowners allow mortgage lenders to pay their real estate tax and insurance bills for them?
That is the proposition at the core of mortgage escrow services, in which lenders collect money on the borrower’s behalf as part of the monthly mortgage […]
